About YWA

Traditionally, Yap women form groups and organize community projects that have a long term effect on their children, family and community

Moving into the economic world is a new role that requires modernizing, this is why the YWA was formed.

The Yap Women's Association is a traditional woman role established as a non-profit organization representing 73 registered women's groups of Yap state.

Founded in 1955 on volunteerism, local products and traditional values.

Yap Women are the caretakers of children and elderly, the counselors and nurturers in their community. Women also plant, grow, harvest and prepare food for their family and community activities.

YWA creates local programs that provide a working mother traditional education in day care and schooling for their children, fresh local food markets for their families as well as laundry-mats in the villages.

The association is fueling these programs with local products through custom programs benefiting child developmentcultural preservation and food security.

Donations and local product sales can be made supporting the organization, or a specific program.

  1. Kaselehlie,

I would like to kindly ask if or by any chance your group has pictures of Rapheal Tinan. Our office here is working on a video and we are trying to find as much pictures we can to use for her parts in the video. She mentioned that she was one of the founders of YWA that is why i am kindly asking if there's any pictures of her with you.

    Kalahngan,
